Finish The Ride &
Finish The Run

It’s Not Just an Event; it’s a Movement for Safer Roads Across California.

Finish the Ride was started by Damian Kevitt in the spirit of courage and determination to overcome tragedy despite insurmountable odds following him losing his leg to a hit-and-run crime. It is a movement that has been heard worldwide to make the streets safer for all road users.

EVENTS

Join us for one or both of our bi-annual events in Griffith Park and Santa Clarita!

Finish The Ride and Run events are for beginners and seasoned athletes alike, all uniting under the same banner: making the roads we travel safer, more welcoming, and more embracing for everyone who uses them. These events are not merely rides and runs; they are what fuels the advocacy work of Streets Are For Everyone.

Streets Are For Everyone embraces a holistic approach to road safety, focusing not only on individual behavior but also on advocating for systemic changes. They work tirelessly to engage communities, collaborate with local authorities, and influence policies that foster safer environments for all road users. By doing so, they aim to create a culture of shared responsibility where drivers, runners, cyclists, and pedestrians all understand and respect each other's presence on the road.

Finishing The Ride or Run in Honor of Those Who Can’t

#NeverGiveUp

Over 32,000 people are killed, and 2 million are injured yearly from motor vehicle crashes in the United States. In fact, the United States has the highest number of crash deaths each year out of 10 other high-income nations - by almost double. On top of this, the United States has the lowest decrease in crash deaths out of all these nations. (https://www.cdc.gov/vitalsigns/motor-vehicle-safety/)

Finish The Ride and Finish The Run

Those who participate in Finish The Ride sometimes do so after their own personal tragedy or in the name of others.

No matter who or what they participate for, every participant helps prevent further loss of life due to traffic fatalities — one of the leading causes of death in the United States.

Join the movement. Be part of the solution.

Finishing the Ride for Andrew Jelmert

On 1 May 2022, Finish The Ride Griffith Park Half Century was dedicated to Andrew Jelmert, who tragically lost his life while cycling in Griffith Park on the 16th of April 2022 - close to where Damian Kevitt lost his leg in a hit & run in 2013. Andrew was pedaling the final stretch of a 67-mile training ride in preparation for a 545-mile ride from San Francisco to LA, benefiting the San Francisco AIDS Foundation and the Los Angeles LGBT Center. He was killed by a speeding driver who had also been drinking.

Ride and Run in Style

Help spread the message of street safety for all users, at Finish The Ride and Run.

This year's Finish The Ride Jersey shows off a message of safety on the back (a law Streets Are For Everyone helped to get passed in 2022) with the now-traditional phoenix of perseverance in the face of adversity, on the front. Similarly, the Finish The Run Tech Shirt proclaims "Never Give Up" loud and clear! Available at Registration or order them right here.

Learn About Damian’s Story

The Tragedy That Started It All

Finish The Ride was started by cyclist Damian Kevitt as a movement for safer streets after he was hit by a car, dragged 1/4 mile down Interstate 5, and nearly killed while riding his bicycle in Griffith Park in 2013.

From that horrific crime, a movement was born to make California’s streets safe for everyone. Finish the Ride and Finish the Run were SAFE’s first events, and they continue today as a space where community members can come together for change.
