GRIFFITH PARK 2019 FAQ’s


 


Yes, there will be. Our ride director and run director are currently finalizing the routes and as soon as they are known, they will be posted here, on the event page, on social media, etc ... for view and download. 




HOW LONG ARE THE "FINISH THE RIDE" AND "FINISH THE RUN" EVENTS?

We have a wide-range of events from which to choose, such as:

FINISH THE RIDE
9 Mile Ride/Roll
20 Mile Nice and Easy Ride
35 Mile Leg Burn Ride
Killer Half Century (50 Mile)

FINISH THE RUN
5K Run/Walk
10K Run/Walk
Half Marathon

IS IT ROUND TRIP?

Yes. All "Finish The Ride" and "Finish The Run" events start and end at:
Crystal Springs Picnic Area
4659 Crystal Springs Drive
Los Angeles, CA 90027



IS THERE A SHUTTLE SERVICE BACK TO THE START?

No, there is no need for a shuttle service since the event starts and ends in the same location. However, we do have support staff available along along the route who can bring you back to the start if you are unable to finish for any reason. 


DO I HAVE TO REGISTER BEFORE THE DAY OF THE RIDE OR RUN?

No. Registration will be available starting at 6am on the day of the event. However, there will be a price increase of $10 if you register on the day of the event compared to pre-registration. Price ranges are listed in a later question on these FAQs.


ARE KIDS FREE?

No, and any child under the age of 14 is required to participate with a parent or guardian. However, children who are not actively participating in the event (riding in strollers, behind bicycles, etc ... ) can participate for free. Any questions, please call us. 


IS THERE AN AGE LIMIT TO PARTICIPATE IN THE "FINISH THE RIDE" AND "FINISH THE RUN" EVENT?

Some event categories do carry an age limit. This is noted on the registration form under the appropriate event. 


DO I HAVE TO PRE-REGISTER MY CHILD?

Yes, all participants must register prior to event start. Children who are in strollers or other carriers and not actively participating in the event do not need to register and may participate for free. 


DO I HAVE TO RIDE/RUN WITH MY CHILD?

Yes. Children under 14 are required to participate with their parent or legal guardian. Also a parent or legal guardian is required to sign the waiver form for the child who is participating.


HOW MUCH DOES IT COST TO PARTICIPATE?

The cost of the event depends on which course you choose. Prices and registration deadlines are below.

WHERE DOES THE MONEY RAISED BY THE EVENT GO?

Proceeds will go to benefit Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE), a non-profit 501c3 whose mission is aiming to improve the quality of life for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers alike by working to reduce traffic caused fatalities to Zero. 

SAFE addresses the problem in a holistic fashion through direct education, broad awareness campaigns, partnerships, community outreach, policy and legislation, supported for those impacted and other proven strategies.

Proceeds also benefit Walk N' Rollers, a project under the LACBC, whose mission is to empower school age children and their parents through education and training to safely and responsibly bike, walk, skate and scoot to and from school. 



HOW DO I GET A "FINISH THE RIDE" JERSEY OR "FINISH THE RUN" TECH SHIRT?

"Finish The Ride" jerseys will be sold for $60 each on the day of the event and for pre-sale on our registration site at $55. "Finish The Run" tech shirts sell for $40. Jerseys do run small, so we recommend ordering one size up. 

Sign up to be a fundraiser for SAFE and receive a jersey or tech shirt for free (along with other perks) when you reach the goal of $500. 



CAN I CHANGE THE DISTANCE I RIDE OR RUN?

Yes, but if the price for the event is different, an upgrade fee will be required. No refund will be given if you are switching to a shorter/cheaper event. 


IF I AM RIDING A TANDEM BIKE, DO I AND MY PARTNER REGISTER AS ONE PERSON OR TWO?

Register as two people as you will both be getting a free t-shirt or socks, both be eligible for the free raffle, medal, etc ... 


IF I SIGN UP AND CAN'T PARTICIPATE THAT DAY, DO I GET MY MONEY BACK?

No. We do not at this time offer any refund if you can't participate that day. However, know that the fees for the ride or run will go to a great cause -- supporting Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE), a non-profit 501c3 whose mission is aiming to improve the quality of life for pedestrians, bicyclists and drivers alike by working to reduce traffic caused fatalities to Zero. 


WHAT KIND OF BIKE SHOULD I USE FOR "FINISH THE RIDE?"

Any bike will do for "Finish The Ride" -- road bikes, racing bikes, beach cruisers, hybrids, fixies, BMX bikes, mountain bikes, etc. For the longer rides, it is recommended that you sufficient gears to be able to climb some long steep hills. 


CAN I GET MY BIKE TUNED UP BEFORE THE RIDE?

Yes, there will be free repair and tune up stations available at the ride -- before and after. There will also be a bicycle mechanic at a rest stop along the rides that help with any simple repairs. 


WHERE DO I PARK?

Parking will be available at any of the surrounding lots in Griffith Park.


IS THERE A BAG CHECK WHERE I CAN STORE MY STUFF?

No, we do not provide a bag check on the day of the event. Please plan accordingly. 


SHOULD I BRING MY OWN WATER BOTTLE?

We do recommend that you bring your own water bottle, but free water will be available to all riders and volunteers at the pit stops and water stations as well as at the end event expo. 


WHAT KIND OF REFRESHMENT WILL YOU HAVE?

Free snacks and drinks will be available along the routes. There will also be great food trucks at the end event expo! A percentage of the cost of any food purchased at the Street Safety Expo will be donated to Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE), so feel free to eat lots!


WHAT WILL BE AT THE END EVENT EXPO?

The end event expo will have lots of vendor booths focusing on products related to street safety and green living. There will be snacks (if donated by sponsors and supporters), beer (at select events), live music, dancing and lots of free samples given out at the vendor booths and raffle to benefit Streets Are For Everyone (SAFE) and Walk N' Rollers.


ARE NON-REGISTERED PEOPLE ABLE TO COME TO THE END EVENT VENUE?

Yes. Anyone is welcomed to come to the end event expo. They will not; however, be eligible for the free beer at the beer garden (if offered). 


WHERE DOES THE EVENT START?

The Griffith Park event starts at the Crystal Springs Picnic Area, 4659 Crystal Springs Drive, Los Angeles, CA 90027


IS THERE A TIME LIMIT TO THE RIDES OR RUNS?

Not at all. Speeds will vary from person to person and no one will be left behind on the routes. The riders are fully supported with SAG wagons and marshals to guide the riders. The runs are timed, but are not required race. 


WHAT IS THE "FINISH THE RIDE" COURSE LIKE? IS IT ALL BIKE PATH OR DO I HAVE TO RIDE ON CITY STREETS?

Route maps will be posted as links on the individual event page and registration site as they become available. 


ARE THERE ANY HILLS ON THE RIDE?

The 9 Mile Family Fun Ride/Roll and 20 Mile Nice and Easy Ride are fairly flat, while the 35 mile and Half Century have some challenging hills. Route maps will be available as links on the individual event page and registration site as they become available. 


WILL STREETS BE CLOSED FOR "FINISH THE RIDE" and "FINISH THE RUN?"

No streets will be closed for Finish The Ride. It is an open streets event, but fully supported by staff, marshals and SAG wagons.


IS FINISH THE RIDE A RACE?

No, it is not. The longer rides are considered training rides, meaning some people use it as training for other more strenuous rides in the future.


HOW MANY PIT STOPS ARE THERE?

There will be several pit stops and full support along all routes. There are 3 pit stops on the Half Century route. 


WHAT IF I GET TIRED AND CAN'T FINISH?

There will be ride marshals and other event staff with radios and a SAG wagon available to pick up fatigued or injured riders/runners/walkers and bring them back to the end event expo where they can rest up and receive any minor first aid. 


ARE HELMETS REQUIRED ON "FINISH THE RIDE?"

Yes, helmets will be required for all participating cyclists. Please bring your own. 


WHAT CAN I DO TO HELP AT THE EVENT?

We are always looking for volunteers for pre-event help as well as help during the event. Go to www.FinishTheRide.org/volunteers, fill out the form, and someone will contact you with details on how you can help. 


ARE THE EVENTS OF "FINISH THE RIDE" and "FINISH THE RUN" TIMED?

Finish The Ride is not timed. It is not a race, it is a ride purely for charity. However, all Finish The Run events are chip timed (5K, 10K and Half Marathon). 


ARE DOGS ALLOWED TO PARTICIPATE?

Yes, dogs are more than welcome to participate in all events. Bring the whole family!
